I am a Brisbane, Australia based photographer working with large format and medium format film and digital photography. I also develop/process all of my own film. I’m primarily interested in capturing ideological contrasts, contradictions and ambiguities visually and I am also very interested in capturing natural beauty and form, often in a diffused or pictorial manner. The subject matter for my work is wide, but genres include figurative, portraiture, landscapes, tableau and still life. I’m particularly interested in and drawn to the pictorialism style that dates from 1890-1920s and alternative printing processes, such as cyanotypes. With respect to colour imagery, I’m drawn to modern concepts portrayed in a classical painterly style, thus simultaneously exploring contradictions in both the subject matter and the methods by which it is conveyed.
I am also drawn to photographic abstraction and blur and I continue to develop my own techniques for this style of capture.
With respect to my figurative work, I’m particularly interested in diffusion, layering and blur. Thus, again, I seek to explore and develop a modern version of pictorialism with contemporary social themes. I work with all people equally, regardless of age, sex or gender identity. If you have something to portray visually or just wish to explore your identity via photography please reach out to shoot!
